    Job Description & Requirements

    This position is responsible for managing Quality Assurance at the regional level for up to sixteen facilities. This position must ensure that the company produces safe products of the highest and most consistent quality by overseeing various branded and private label production. This position will aid in the assessment of operations and manage the implementation of corporate quality assurance policies and programs at the plant and corporate levels.

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    • Lead implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act across designated plants to ensure compliance.
    • Lead plant initiatives related to the FDA Ice Cream Initiative at Ice Cream plants in region.
    • Implement and ensure conformance to corporate quality assurance programs to prevent food quality or food safety issues at manufacturing facilities and offsite storage facilities.
    • Monitor finished product quality, compositional results to ensure conformance to Dean Specifications are maintained.
    • Assure that all plants are audit- and inspection- ready at all times.
    • Identify and lead Process Improvement initiatives within the assigned region.
    • Develop a rapport with Plant and QA managers of all company-owned locations.
    • Develop and document a complete HACCP plan for each plant in the assigned region.
    • Develop and document a complete QACCP plan for each plant in the assigned region
    • Develop and maintain a specific QA/QC SOP manual for each plant in the assigned region.
    • Perform process improvement assessments on selected locations (Known as Quality Improvement Program QIP)
    • Troubleshoot problems associated with finished product production in assigned facilities; investigate root cause, develop and implement corrective actions, and prevent reoccurrence through the development of long-term solutions.
    • Install appropriate controls, sample plans, hold/release system modifications, code rotation, batching and processing controls, and other production systems where problems might exist.
    • Coordinate QA efforts with R&D and vice versa
    • Work with R&D to ensure that manufacturing and raw material specifications exist and are current and enforced.
    • Stay current with all key regulatory and certifying agency guidelines. Manage regulatory issues within assigned region to include process filings, unannounced inspections, requirements associated with label compliance and net weight, etc
    • All other duties as assigned by any member of the Quality Assurance department

     

    JOBS SUPERVISED (BY TITLE): None directly, but function dotted line from Plant QA Managers.

     

    TRAVEL: Estimated at 50%   

     

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

         A.  Education and Experience:

     

          Degree:    BS in Science / Food Science / Technology or equivalent

     

    • Prefer 8+ years previous Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing environments, preferably fluid environments, with knowledge on extended shelf life, Aseptic, and/or Dairy equipment.
    • Prefer multiple plant responsibility/oversight
    • Minimum level of prior or present responsibility as Quality Assurance Manager for a food manufacturing facility, preferably with multiple plant responsibility 
    • Prefer thorough understanding of plant production systems, GMP, GFSI, HACCP, sanitation, food safety, quality systems, kosher and organic regulations.
    • Prefer 5 years’ experience with perishable products including milk, milk products, cultured, soy, and oil-based beverages and food items

     

          B. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Physical Demands:The job activities require prolonged sitting and standing, bending, stooping and climbing. Physical requirements are eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, plant equipment assembly, telephone, calculator and laboratory equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision (including colors) to observe record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. The job requires lifting up to 50 pounds. Work environment creates exposure to machines, chemicals and solvents.

     

    Work Environment:

    Must understand vague and implicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations. One must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people. Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position. Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans and prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must understand people and be able to communicate effectively. Ability to do simple math calculations, input data into a computer and analyze data is required.
