    Job Description & Requirements

    The primary purpose of this position is to provide category insights and analytics to drive category growth in the Dairy Department categories for Dean Food’s customers located in the North Region.  The individual will utilize point of sales data, syndicated data, HH panel data, and software tools to formulate category insights that drive assortment and shelving recommendations.  They will work proactively with the customer and sales team to deliver effective business solutions in the area of category leadership.  The mission is to provide unparalled value to internal and external stakeholders by demonstrating category and marketplace expertise within Dairy Department categories.

     

    Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

     

    • Drive thought leadership and build strong relationships with key stakeholders at assigned customers within the North Region; Effectively penetrate and nurture relationships to achieve be the most trusted advisor/vendor in the Dairy Department
    • Aggressively pursue and lead assigned key customers in the achievement of revenue, profitability and DSMP objectives, aligning to business targets
    • Use data and reporting tools to deliver insightful, compelling and effective analyses with customers that result in increased volume for customers and for Dean Foods’ brands
    • Ownership for aligning Dairy Category initiatives and strategies with those of the retailer to include shelf testing, shelving solutions, category flow and adjacencies
    • Act as the key point of contact for Category Management functions and drive Dean Foods DSMP objectives, for assigned customer sales leaders; become an integral member of the customer sales team
    • Build collaborative, cross functional relationships with internal and broker stakeholders
    • Support sales leaders with new item and distribution selling analyses and presentations
    • Provide proactive analysis of business conditions and drivers, promotions, category trends and dynamics, as well as emerging segment trends

     

    Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

    • Be a strong project manager – establish objectives, processes, assign roles, manage timelines, and set goals for expected outcomes
    • Demonstrates the ability to select, analyze and integrate consumer/shopper, customer and category insights to deliver business solutions
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and application of category management principles and processes to deliver value-added category and shopper solutions
    • Strong understanding of syndicated data, HH panel data and shopper relevant data (Nielsen, IRI, EYC, 84.51, Spectra, etc.)
    • Ability to synthesize a holistic sales story from multiple data sources and understand complex and multi-faceted trends
    • Possess analytical and critical thinking skills – analytic curiosity – as well as creative thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to lead a group of cross functional internal and external team members
    • Ability to work in a matrix environment where priorities change rapidly and tight deadlines exist
    • Possess strong presentation and communication skills
    • Strong analytical, collaborative and consultative abilities

    Job Requirements:

    • Four year college degree
    • Located in the Chicagoland area
    • Ability to travel 10–20% of the time
    • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in category management
    • A minimum of 2 years’ sales experience in consumer product goods
    • A minimum of 3 years analytic experience, preferably in category management
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite tools
    • Proficient in IRI and/or Nielsen tools
    • Strength of various sales analytic software/tools such as space planning software, Household panel Data, Spectra, FeatureVision; EYC or card data experience a plus
    • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
    • Must be able to pass all pre-employment screens (including drug, background and criminal checks)
