The Senior Finance Manager North Brands (Friendly’s, Steve’s, and Deans Country Fresh) leads the forecasting and planning process for the Branded Ice Cream Business. The Senior Finance Manager reports to the Finance Director and is responsible for executing the objectives of the Finance Director and the Branded Ice Cream Management Team. This role can be located in Wilbraham, MA or Dallas, TX.

Job Description & Requirements

The Sr. Manager of Field Finance will be responsible for strengthening and managing Commercial Finance and FP&A activities within the Dean Foods Company Field organization. He/she will develop and lead a team in providing business decision support to the Commercial Sales team through strategic thought leadership and financial analysis. The Sr. Manager will translate strategic ideas into working plans, evolving the financial planning framework and addressing business issues.  He/she will partner with the VP of Field Finance to elevate the organization to higher performance standards and enhance the Company’s processes and growth opportunities.

  • Leads a team in analyzing key business performance metrics (i.e. volume, standard contribution margin and trade spend) and identifying performance improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with key Commercial business partners, such as the Group Sales VP, to improve business results by recognizing key change levers.
  • Develops and enhances financial planning processes and grows the Finance team’s analytical capabilities.
  • Identifies net price management and volume mix opportunities including financial support to ensure that proposals balance both market conditions and the financial needs of the business.
  • Ensures that the Strategic Financial Planning process for the Company links to the long-term product development and operational strategies of the Company.
  • Performs extensive variance analysis vs. prior years, budgets and plans; includes accompanying written business analysis to identify problem areas and make suggestions for improvement; develops and analyzes performance metrics.
  • Supports the Company’s development activities by analyzing initiatives including new product introductions, network optimization, licensing and geographic expansion.
  • Prepares financial packages for senior management on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis including updates on business risks and opportunities.
  • Serves as a business partner to the Group Sales VP’s to assist them in developing customer profitability analytics and evaluating product and marketing initiatives.
  • Evaluates current share trends, performs competitor analyses, and evaluates potential business solutions.
  • Supports the bid management process (RFP’s) on both new and existing business opportunities.
  • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controlling; has supervisory responsibility involving staffing, conducting performance appraisals, training and developing subordinates, promotions, salary increases, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travel: 10-15%.


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with an Accounting and/or Finance concentration; an MBA is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of finance and business experience, preferably some of which has been in a consumer products company, or an industry where the finance function plays an active role.
  • Demonstrated strength in financial planning and analysis in a company with complex business strategies.
  • Experience leading an FP&A function in a sophisticated large company environment.
  • Background in refining and implementing financial systems and processes, preferably some of which have been in a transitional environment and / or consumer products organization; transformation experience is a plus.
  • Analytical experience in one or more functional areas such as Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain (for Cost Control) and Product Management / Development.
  • Proven efficiency in identifying performance drivers and establishing financial goals.
  • Demonstrates a passion for learning and a willingness to build new skills.
  • Must be able to define, diagnose, and resolve problems.
  • Possess an organization•wide perspective and understand how the business operates.
  • Understand the vision of the organization and translate it into specific plans and actions that achieve desired results.
  • Assist with strategy development at all levels of the organization to drive business performance.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
