    Job Description & Requirements

    The Director, Dairy Policy & Economics is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the data to support the fundamentals of [the company’s internal price forecasting] [the price forecast]. It will be important that this individual [have in-depth knowledge] [continually be up to speed on] of the economic policies impacting raw milk pricing, both directly and indirectly, and be able to effectively communicate [these pricing dynamics to others in the organization. This position will work closely with members of the commodity procurement team, operating platform management, government relations, strategy, and senior management to both educate and communicate price expectations and policy change implications. This position, together with a cross-functional milk strategy team, will develop recommendations on what position the organization should take to support the company objectives on milk regulations.

     

    Regular duties include but are not limited to:

    • Track commodity prices, inventories, demand, imports and farm production.
    • Develop models to provide a forward view of production and subsequent inventory positions.
    • Communicate pertinent dairy economic information for internal use and for customer distribution.
    • Provide education to Dean employees on the effects of regulation.
    • Provide education to customers on milk pricing regulation and the overall complexity of the milk pricing system.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with USDA Market Administrators and their staff.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with senior USDA staff.
    • Assist in developing positions ahead of federal & state milk marketing order hearings.

    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 4-7 years of relative dairy work experience or minimum of 3-4 years of dairy work experience combined with a master’s degree in economics or agricultural economics.
    • Knowledge of the regulatory structure impacting milk pricing (i.e. federal orders, Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board, knowledge of state orders).
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate with commodity procurement team, commercial team, business leaders, customers, industry peers and government officials.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Impeccable written and verbal communications skills
